Strategy Changes:

Overall my content strategy has not changed much from when I originally created it. The biggest change has been that I shifted from pursuing a Master of Arts to focusing on completing a Graduate Certificate. This change shifts the number of academic content pieces that I need to showcase from eight to four, so I have condensed that part of my content strategy. I’ve also expanded the content outline to include the other elements that are required for certificate completion.

I have also adjusted my work samples section to focus more on my social media campaigns and freelance web design projects. Over the past year I’ve redesigned three websites and found that I needed a place to provide potential web design clients with examples of my web design work.

Goals:

The primary goal for my digital portfolio is to meet the requirements to graduate with the Graduate Certificate in Writing and Digital Communication. I want to have a singular place to showcase my graduate coursework and highlight the skills and experience I gained throughout the program. My secondary goal is use the portfolio to include with my resume and cover letter for future employment. I am not currently looking for another job, but I would like to have my portfolio available so that I can show it to my current employer and gain a permanent position. Beyond showcasing my graduate work, I would like a way to display samples of my digital marketing work and highlight specific campaigns or projects that I’ve worked on. I am specifically looking to create a place to showcase all of the website design work that I’ve done so that I can provide prospective web design clients with examples of my work.

Content objectives:

In order to meet the goals for my digital portfolio, I will need to meet each of the content requirements for the certificate. The content requirements will specifically document my work in the graduate program and how it relates to my digital marketing competencies in strategy, research, writing, and analysis. The content will provide me an opportunity to reflect on my past work and find concrete and specific examples that I can use in future job searches to stand out and highlight accomplishments.

To meet my secondary goal of showcasing my professional work samples, I will need to provide specific examples of campaigns and projects that I’ve worked on throughout my career. I will need to curate the best examples that showcase my expertise and experience with social media campaigns, landing page development, content creation, and email marketing. Pulling the content together will allow me to reflect on my past work and pull out results and metrics that can be included in my resume and LinkedIn profile to showcase my accomplishments instead of just the tasks performed.

For my website samples, I’m not looking to generate new business. I only seek to have a centralized place to send clients that I’ve already engaged with so that they can see examples of my work.

Audience and Personas:

The general audience for the digital portfolio will be both the graduate digital portfolio review committee and a digital marketing hiring manager. For my current goal of securing a permanent position with my employer, I’ll be focusing on my current manager.

The persona for the member of the digital portfolio review committee is a current Agnes Scott professor. She is a digital communications professional with extensive experience in website development, video production, and race and gender studies. She is an academic who takes a practical approach to online media. She is a woman who lives inside the Atlanta perimeter and spends her free time running, creating a podcast, and watching TV and movies with her dog and cats. She values effort and critical thought.

The persona for the potential hiring manager is a social media team leader with a decade of professional experience. She looks closely at details and performance. She wants teammates who can work well with others, be organized and efficient, are trustworthy, and who really know their field. She values learning and self-improvement. She is a 40-something woman who lives inside the Atlanta perimeter and spends her free time on the beltline, enjoying good wine, and shopping for unique fashions. She is a bit neurotic and cares very deeply about doing a good job. Her subordinates enjoy working with her and she always has her team’s back.

Personal Branding Statement:

My digital portfolio helps me accomplish my goal of graduating from Agnes Scott with a graduate certificate in Writing and Digital Communication and becoming a respected and desirable digital marketing professional. It will provide examples of my graduate and professional work that makes my professors and current/future employers and clients feel confident and reassured that I have a solid digital communications background and education.
